Content policy

TranslationTone is a real-time translated messaging and calling service. This policy describes the content and conduct we prohibit, how to report violations, and how we respond.

What's prohibited

The following are not allowed on TranslationTone, whether between two people on a private call or in a message:

  • Harassment, threats, or targeted intimidation of another person.
  • Hate speech based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or other protected characteristic.
  • Sexually explicit content, and any material that sexualizes minors.
  • Graphic violence or glorification of physical harm.
  • Illegal activity, including sale of drugs, weapons, or prohibited services.
  • Impersonation or attempts to pretend to be another person or organization.
  • Spam, unsolicited commercial content, or deceptive marketing.
  • Sharing another person's private information without their consent (doxing).
  • Using the service for fraud, scams, or phishing.
  • Any conduct directed at children under 13 (or 16 in jurisdictions that apply that floor).

How to report

If a user or a specific message violates this policy, you can report it from inside the app:

  • On any received message: long-press the message (Android) or use the "⋯" menu (web) and choose "Report".
  • On the banner that appears for unknown senders: use the "Report" button.
  • For urgent reports or anything involving physical threats: email wade@translationtone.com with as much detail as you can share.

You can also block a user at any time — their future messages won't reach your thread. Blocking is independent of reporting: blocking does not file a report, and reporting does not automatically block.

How we respond

Every report is reviewed by a human on our team. Depending on severity and context, possible actions include:

  • A warning to the reported user.
  • Limiting the reach of their account (for example, restricting send to contacts only).
  • Temporarily suspending the account.
  • Permanently closing the account.
  • In cases of illegal activity, cooperation with law enforcement where the law requires it.

We aim to review reports within 72 hours of receipt. We do not publish the specifics of individual actions taken, to protect the privacy of all parties involved.

Preventive controls

In addition to reporting, we offer controls that help you avoid unwanted contact:

  • Block: a blocked person can no longer message you or call you. You can reverse this from settings.
  • Contacts only: in your profile you can toggle "Only accept messages from my contacts." Strangers will not be able to reach you while this is on.
  • Mute: if you just want to quiet someone's notifications without breaking the conversation, each chat's menu has a per-contact mute.

Appeals

If you believe your account was limited or closed in error, email wade@translationtone.com with your username and a brief explanation. We'll respond in a reasonable timeframe and reconsider the decision.

Changes

As the product and our community grow, we will update this policy. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the version currently in effect.
